Boot Modification

Hi All

I heard a lot lately about cutting the plastic flap on the front of the ski boots to allow the tighting strap to close the liner more without interferace from the boot.

Is this common practice?
What are the benifits from this modification?

I just place the strap inside of the top buckle / flap.

Regardless, I don't worry that much about trying to crank down the strap but I tend to ski softer conditions, off-piste, etc.
