I have a good experience with Cross country skiing as a starting point before downhill. The kid gets some more experience with movements and feelings on the snow (mainly the feeling of sliding) and good balance in soft, not supporting cross country boots. Started with our 3 y/o cross country last year and added downhill this year. She is making a very good progress now and not leaning back much. And we still continue with Xcountry as she loves it too.
