EpicSki NASTAR team - Page 2

OK who is pulling their weight. I went to Peak n Peak over the weekend and cleaned up. I freaking qualified for the National Championships in Steamboat.

I have never raced Nastar before. Is that good or do they like give that out to everyone?

As long as you are in the top 3 in you age/division at a resort you qualify. Assuming there aren't alot of people in your division it isn't too hard. I'm going

dchan,

Had my first race in Park City during the gathering. Had a blast and now I'm hooked. Next year full race gear and team racing.

However, no speed suit just can't do it.

Wow. We've moved up to 420th place out of 2800+ teams.

Way to jump on board, Powdigger and others.

At this rate, we'll win this thing in another three months.

I would love to, but I'll be, ahem, heli-skiing in Valdez at that particular time.

Good luck to all of you who go.

Are you going to be skiing with H2O, Bob? I know Dean from when we were kids.

Hi, MK.

No, we're going to be skiing with Alaska Rendezvous Heli Guides. Theo Meiners is the owner and he and a bunch of his guides have been instructors/guides here at Jackson Hole for many years.

Here's the link:

And lo and behold, today's mail had my wife's invitation to the NASTAR nationals as well. We could have gone as a couple.

Too bad, I would have had you say hello to the Commander for me. Anyway, I hope you have great flying weather and log heaps of vert.
I joined up with the bears. I hope It helps. When I paceset my runs dont count for me so I dont have that many personal runs in this year.

We are moving up in the rankings. Thanks to those who have been racing lately. I have not been able to get on the course as of late hope to change that soon.

Mind if a gate-gaper joins? I did a couple of runs today to get my NASTAR Bronze, which is a requirment for PSIA-RM Level I certification. But it was fun enough that I'll probably keep doing some - my 2nd run was about 2/3 of the way through the bronze range towards a silver handicap, so there's hope
post #46 of 183

the big question ..

Did MarkXS ... or (not), check his date of birth today and actually wish that he was (or not), a year older?

Be honest!
Nah, wishing I was a year or two older wouldn't have made a difference for where my results today came in. I would have to be 10 years older for my handicap today to get me a silver instead of the bronze. Breakpoint for Silver for my age range is <37, my best run was 43.

That's my best run *today*. That 36 or lower seems attainable.
I know its kinda late, but I'll join, and I can run right here in Steamboat (I think the Nastar Nationals are here too). Personally, I have only run our course a couple times, screwing around on my untuned PE's and still raced at a Gold level (less than a second off platnum if I remember right), anyway, I'll register and see if I can do a few runs on Sunday or Monday (my days off from Ski School), and if anyone is here for the Nationals, gimmie a holler when you're in town.

Time to bump this thread up.

Hey, gang, Epic is way down in lowly 592nd place. :

There are 12000? people in Epic, and that's the best we can do? There's still time left this season to rectify this ugly standing. Many people on the team haven't even raced this year. Come on gang, let's make a final push for the top. If your signed up, RACE! If not, get in there.

I know there must be fast feet on Epic to help the cause. :

I'm interested. Does it cost any money to race? Does it matter that I've never raced before? Aside from signing up at nastar.com, how does it all work? Thanks.

Not fast feet, but I got a bronze a few years ago and I'm a better skier now and up one in the age bracket.

BTW Rick you need to empty your PM box

Hi thaar. It does cost to race, but very reasonable. $12 gives you all the runs you want to take for the entire day. Nice means of training, actually.

Easy to enter,,, you just sign up right at the start shack. If you've already signed up on NASTAR.com, remember to bring your registration #, then all you do is fill in your number on the race registration form at the start and give the guy/girl your money. Easy. For those who haven't registered prior, you do it right at the start shack,,,, just fill in the needed info on the race registration form.

No, it doesn't matter if you've never raced. The courses are pretty basic, and the slopes they are set on are not that steep. They're a very easy means of getting your feet wet in a race course. Anyone can do it. Seriously. I introduced a never-ever to it last year. She was scared to the point I almost had to literally push her out of the start gate. Now she's in the dang NASTAR course all the time,,, having acquired her Gold level, and gunning for platinum. It's addictive. :

We're skiing all over Summit County(Vail included) and enjoying the Spring skiing.
OK, I just joined. See if it affects the standings at all.
Sounds like fun, Rick! I did register this season, but have not jumped in.

Dunno how much of LGC I'll be taking in. I'll be out a bit before, then heading to Big Sky, and should get a few days after Big Sky before heading home. Hope our schedules line up, it would be great to see (and ski with) you again.

As ssh says, take Rick up on his offer if you can!

You should look --- seriously --- into LGC and coaching with Rick, formal or informal---it will help you improve........:
Well, I figure on being at LGC...but as slow as I am even with Rick's coaching....I figure I could get us to at least 600 in the standings!
