I am a 47 yr old female, 5'3" and about 138 lbs. I have been skiing for around 10yrs (1 or 2 weeks per year) mostly in the French Alps on-piste. I have had only the occasional lesson so lack style but am reasonably competent on all but the scariest of black runs. I was skiing on Salomon X-Screams (probably the children's version!) until 2 years ago, when I bought some ex-rental Head C160i (156 cm) whilst on holiday. I demoed them for a day, and liked them apart from a couple of dodgy moments on icy patches. I didn't worry too much at the time, however, since then every time I ski over ice I lose it big time, often to the extent of falling. Last week whilst in the Alps I switched to my 'Blades' (99cm) after a couple of days, and found that I could ski over the same ice patches that I had fallen on the previous day without a problem. Needless to say I stuck to my blades for the rest of the week, and have lost a lot of confidence in the skis. I have a theory that the skis are too advanced for my ability, but the descriptions I have read of the C160i implies that they adapt to all conditions and levels. I am about to try to sell them unless anyone can advise how to overcome the problem.
