Ski Tuning Bench!!! Awsome Plans!!!!! - Page 2

Edit - I got the links to work.

Yeah, I bet it's a beeyotch to get the ski out of the vice with the heel piece in that hole. It wouldn't work very well with Look/Rossi bindings.

That's a whole lotta wood for a tuning bench, but it looks sweet and very professional

What I like about this whole rig, is that it's easy to take with me on road trips and I can mount it to a dining room table in a condo.
Inspired by John's adjustable tip supports, I cobbled together a version of my own tonight. This is real ugly, so the squimish should avert their eyes:

In short, the top is a rubber stopper (Home Depot, ~$2.50) screwed into the top board with a wood screw. The head of the bolt is embedded between the top two boards. The bolt is 1/4 inch, 2 1/2 inches long. There is a nut embedded between the 3rd and 4th boards. Scrap wood for the ugly base and shazam, soft top, tool-less adjustable tip support.

I haven't used it yet, so I can't vouch for its performance. But there it is.

those supports could work...its really high? Lets see a cleaner version.

As for my design goes, im going to get a side to side boot holder made up i think...and i havemor mods for my bench but ive been working everyday so i never have time.

Note that my tail and tip supports will be padded with rubber anyway, and eventually they will be made odf plastic or a hard rubber, i actually have a company intrested in making these for me. Beforei do that, ive been checking into patent laws and have been speaking with a lawyer. I might be able to get this thing done up real professonal! SO if i do get this thing patented, and i need a team of "beta testers" can i count on you guys? You will get the stuff for cost plus shipping.

The support is pretty high, 11 or 12 inches. I have a boot sole centerpiece like John's (but not nearly as clean!) that is the same height. The height is correct for me - it puts the ski where I want it when I put it on a table. You could make it 6 or 7 inches shorter.

I need to make another one of these for tail a tail support. It might be a little cleaner, but not much! I'm using as much scrap wood as I can.. because it don't need to be pretty, and what else am I going to do with scrap wood?

There are lots of good ski vices around for ~$100. I wanted to build one cheap. As it turns out, not having any woodworking skillz at all means the project takes a long time. I could have worked at McDonalds for $5 an hour and gotten a vice quicker On the other hand, I've learned a thing or two, which is always good. Oh, and I got to play with [someone else's] power tools, which is good too.
