What a weekend! My wife and I drove up early Sat. morning and hit Copper's blues hard and often on the very fast Super Bee. The snow was good - lots of it from the past week of dumping. The sun came out and the views towards the Ten Mile range, the Gore range and farther were incredible. We stayed on the front side for most of the morning, chowed down on some T-Rex bbq mid mtn, and then headed up and over to Copper Bowl - my first time there....WOW. Very nice stuff. Great scenery!! The snow was actually corn b/c of the south exposure, but still very fun. There was some avy blasting on Tucker Mtn. as well to spice up the day! As we took the chair back to the top of Union Peak, there were a bunch of chics leaping off the huge cliff to the left....sweeeeet!
Then we hiked over to the nice lip dropoff on top of Union Peak and skied the steeeep bowl down to the glades below. The rest of the afternoon was all cruisers so we would have enough stamina to enjoy the New Year's festivities that evening.
8AM we awoke to a huge dump and blinding snow! We hit the lifts at 9AM and began the best day of skiing I've ever had (keep in mind I just moved to CO from the NE). Knee deep POW everywhere, all light and dry. I couldn't get over the feeling of floating in the untracked, and loved the way my Hot Rods blasted through everything. We spent all day on the east side of Copper....hitting everything from Copperopolis to the mega-steeps of Resolution Bowl. We hit tons of glades all over the place, beautiful fluffy moguls, and sweet steeps. This was my 3rd time at Copper and I'm finding that it's definately my favorite mtn. in Summit County.
Who else had great snow over the New Years? It seemed to be dumping all over central CO.
