2-3 year old rossi bandit x or volkl 5star

Please share any experience you've had with Rossignol Bandit X or Volkl 5stars from a couple years ago. I'm about to purchase skis for the first time in many years and I don't want to purchase new. I presume either one would be fun to ski but it would be nice to hear from people who have been on them. There seems to be pretty good availability on the used market for 2-3 year old versions of both. I'm 6', 200lb, age 49, would call myself a low-end expert...can handle most anything but the most severe double black. Will ski mostly in Wisconsin and U.P. of Michigan, with a nearly annual long weekend in Utah. Skiing split between groomed and bumps, not much off-piste.

I am 5' 11" and 195 lbs and skied both oldeer versions of the Bandit X and Volkl 5 star. This is an easy decission. The Volk 5 star wins hands down for the type of skiing you will be doing. I would go with the Volkl 5 star in 168cm length but you could also get it in the 175cm. I got used Volkl 5 stars for my son and his finance. One Volkl 5 star pair only cost me $60 for the skis and another $50 for a set of used 5 star bindings. The deals are out there if you look. Hope this helps.

In the late 90's I skied volkl P20's then was out of sking for 4-5 yrs. When I came back last year I bought a 5* 175, I really disliked the ski for me, way to soft and unstable at speed. Bought a Fischer rx8 for this year, loved it from the very first run, much stiffer and very stable. Your description of your sking sounds similiar to me. I'm 6'1 185.
