Opinions wanted - Fischer Big Stix 7.6

I think I found a good deal on last years model, and was wondering what people thought of this ski. I have a Fischer RX-8 180cm and love carving them at high speed on packed snow -- that's their design point. To expand my quiver, I'm looking for something for the "off-design" conditions where the RX-8 is not so awesome -- basically powder, crud, slush, spring snow (though I have skied the RX-8 in powder and still had a blast). I'm 225lb and 6'1". I can get the Big Stix in 175cm or 185cm -- would probably lean towards 185cm, but that might also make them less fun in bumps.

thanks,
Craig

the BigStix 7.6 is not going to add a lot to your ski experience if you already have an RX-8.

its best terrain is 6" or less of crud or new snow. from what I understand, the RX-8 handles those conditions pretty well.

if I were Fischer's mfg/mktg guru, I'd have never had the 76mm Big Stix. of course, we see this thinking in Fischer's '06 lineup, where the territory previously handled by the BigStix 7.6 now is in the AMC series, which are better at the job.

the BigStix 7.6 will carve well on hard snow and in the crud. it's light-feeling and it's lively. the sweet spot is fairly small for such a light-feeling, lively ski. if you're a big person, 180lbs plus, you might not like the 7.6 much. reports from heavier, more speedseeking skiers are that it's a bit shaky at higher speeds. at 225 lbs you should get the 185 for sure. I skied the 175 and I'm 155 lbs, and I found its speed limit on hard snow. probably at 35 mph or so. high speed stability is not a strong point with the Big Stix 7.6

gonzo, thanks for the inputs -- high speed stability is an important consideration!
