Help a brother....

I'm in need of some advice and it seems like most are "in the know" here. I am an intermediate skier of 15 years. I ski with a medium turning radius and have an appetite for jumps but like to go fast too... I ski about 10-15 times a year. I just got $1000 to spend on ski gear. What kind of skis/boots/bindings should I be looking at? I have been "out of the loop" for the last 5 years with regard to gear. Thanks for your help in advance!

Tommy420, welcome to EpicSki!

Check out the Gear FAQ first.

Second, go up to Green Mountain Orthodic Lab and have them get you balanced into a pair of boots.

Then, follow the pattern in the FAQ and tell us more about what you seek in skis and we can help you if you'd still like.

BTW, congrats on the $1k for gear!

Boots first!

Boots! boots! boots! are the key and the rest is easy..... This would be where you would want to make the majority of your budget go. Spend the time and effort to get a good quality fit. This link http://store.alpinehausct.com/index.html is to the only certified bootfitter in the state. It is a haul from Stratford but would be worth your while and prevent a misfit which would be a PIA to recover from plus a lot of money wasted. Store(I am in no way affiliated with them) has many different brands to choose and plan on spending an afternoon to get fitted properly with return trips in the future to tweak the fit. Can't stress the impotance of this... Skis well you you have quite of options here. Based on skiing type terrain East Vs West etc... Ebay is a great place to find deals on last year models Some good Intermediate skis (in no particular order) and if at all possible Demo Demo Demo
Fischer RX-6 with tyrolia railflex system under a different name
Head IXRC(299 on Ebay with binding new unmounted)
Volkl 4-5 star- 5 star is a great All around eastern ski
Head Im 70 with tyrolia railflex system 150-300 on ebay
Dynastar skicross 9 with look p 10 150-300
Nordica speed machine 12 with marker(04-05)
Nordica Suv
Atomic c9
I prefer Head skis so I am a little biased but trying to think of what is out there to give you more choices. I switched from a volkl guy to head 3 years ago. A good Idea would be to get the properly fitted boots and rent/demo different pairs and pick up what you like at the end of the season. Hopefully this can be a starting point for ya

Cheers and good luck!
