Advice please! I'm looking to surprise my hubby with a new pair of shaped skis for xmas. Since he hasn't skiied in many years his equipment is outdated, and his outdated equipment is keeping him from trying skiing again. Yet he doesn't want to rent equipment, either. I've been having a great time since I picked up skiing again last year, but I really want to get him out on the slopes with me again. So I've been on a quest to find him a suitable ski to start up on again. A closeout or discontinued model from last year would be perfect as it would save a lot of money. I am looking for a fun, carving type of ski, or perhaps all-mountain. He's an intermediate skier (or was, I found it didn't take me too long to regain my skills), not overly aggressive after having heart surgery, 5'4" in height and about 165 lbs. Skiing will be primarily East Coast. I found a pair of Dynastar Skicross Carves which might do, they are marked down to $300, but may be too short- they're 158s. They would be slightly above his nose height, but I'm not sure if they could handle his weight, or perhaps should be skiied a little longer. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
