Looks like admin is going to be spending alot of time moving threads to their rightful forum now that there's so many different topics.

JMHO

I think you guys have created a monster.

bureaucracy in nascent form, already showing the earmarks of that noisome thing... splitting into categories where the larger more generic categories worked just fine.

but then,

we ARE the nation of jerks and losers and fools and babblers and eedjits and dolts, people who will drive 8 mpg SUVs when they know better... just because driving the hog makes them feel cooler than they know they are deep down in their ugly heart of hearts, their musty old cobwebby souls.

...or perhaps simply a mod who naturally generates taxonomies and believes that they have a power to aid cognition. Not to mention one who felt that the broader classifications were beginning to show signs of strain. Perhaps some will focus more on the narrower areas of personal interest while fewer will view the broad whole?

Who knows? But, hopefully, it won't be as bad as you think.

(FWIW, I drive an '88 Integra with nearly 250,000 miles on it... It always starts...)

Be careful here. This thread might get moved to the political forum.

Cmon, Lars, change is good.

I'm thankful I don't have to read about teaching little Susie and Johnny to ski at age 2 while their diapers freeze solid to their butts.

And the snowboarders have a place to chat without having skiers gnash on them and that's cool. Political things are in a separate place....what's not to like about that?

I didn't see the For Free forum, though. That might have been a good idea.

Yaa, I know. You also know that I think teses guys are doing a great job here. I just got to bitch about something. Life's been so good lately.

Hope you have a nice Christmas Bonnie.

I have no problem with the new forum sections, and in fact think the Family Skiing forum will end up being a hot area in terms of interest.

The new format will without question narrow the focus of discussion. For me, ironically, it will probably mean I'll end up reading fewer posts overall. Most of the time I'm interested in something specific, and end up reading other threads because they catch my eye. The more narrower topic format will probably filter some of that away for me.

oh dang. I was trying to be funny with the hyperbole.

being a "categorizer" myself, I understand quite easily the impulse to divide forums.

I bet if you made me the Chief Mod, I'd have a forum for every member and we'd spend the whole day jumping from forum to forum and very little of it actually reading anything.

Sorry, Gonz, I guess the complaints got to me more than I realized. I'll lighten up.

Thanks, ssh. You did good.

I like it....

Further, under Steve's capable leadership the flame wars which nearly drove me (and I suspect others) off this past summer have ended. The current spat in the "bring back straight ski's" thread pales in comparison. SSH will not tolerate the mean spirited posts of the past. A troll or two have returned and are on patrol. I expect he will deal with it with due diligence. One troublesome thread was locked just this week.

I say:

Well done and kudos indeed!!

Epic ski is once again the finest public forum on the internet.

Thanks Steve

Now back to the ski talk - which is why we are all here, to share our love of this wonderful sport.:

I second this. Somehow ssh can be vocal, fun, opinionated, and yet calm and effective. A gentle hand, but somehow still seems in control.

Nice job Steve, AC must be smiling somewhere!

Thank you, guys, but I'm not alone in this. I do appreciate your kindness, though, it helps for those days when I feel like the voice crying in the wilderness!

I appreciate the changes in "taxonomy" too. Just makes it a little easier for me to sort through piles.
