Choosing Volkl Mantra Ski Length!

Thread Starter
I'm trying to choose which Volkl Mantra ski length to choose:
Vitals: 6'-2", 200 lbs., 43 years old, expert skiier (but getting more tentative), California Powder and Crud skiing.
Currently skiing: Salomon Xtrahot Chile 185cm (will continue using )
So I am at a loss, should I be skiing the Mantra 184cm or the 191cm.
I understand that the Mantra is really more of an all mountain ski and therefore does not have to be the dedicated ultra long powder ski. Is there any truth to this? Am i to heavy for the 184?
Any and all advice will be greatly appreciated!
Thanks, Peter

I'm 6'1, 215 right now and I got the 184 mounted back about 1.25cm behind the line (for better powder performance)

given your age and comments, I'd go for the 184, it's just as stable and easier to throw around when things get steep and tight (chutes, trees, couloirs, etc)

if Mammoth happens to be your home mountain and you live to ski Chair 23 (big, steep, fast wide open bowls), get the 191

for most other variable Tahoe conditions, the 184 mounted back a bit will be perfect and you'll find the 184 much more stable than what you just came off of (the Salomon)

hope that helps

you should also consider getting a 190 Gotama for a dedicated powder and crud ski and using the Salomon as the every day ski

you can demo the entire line of Volkl in all sizes at the Squaw Valley Sport Shop demo dept for $45 / day with an unlimited number of returns and swaps (as many as you can try in a day)

i'm at 220lb, and got the 184 for my every day ski. (I have another ski for powder days.) I mounted them on the line and I'm very happy with the 184's crud and sierra cement performance. I'm sure the 184 will be great for those less than 5" pow days.

If the Mantra were my powder boards I would need the 191 for deep days.
