January: Which week would be better?

Assuming conditions are the same, which week would be better: the first week which would include new year's on the first weekend, or the second week which would include mlk on the tail end.

Location is up in the air; wherever's it's good.

I would say you best bet is to go earlier. New Years weekend is normally not as busy as most people think. This year may be different on Saturday Dec 31st. If it's busy and this is your first time on snow this season you can take it easy and not try to keep up with the crowds. Then be ready for the week when no one is there.

MLK weekend is normally the coldest weekend in the northeast and it can get pretty busy that weekend.

I'd recomend Okemo, but I work there so I kind of have too. We have best conditions in the northeast.

My experience is MLK day weekend is a zoo in most places.

Oh, whoops. This would be out west; not here on the East Coast.

I know they're not reliable, but the extended forecasts don't look promising for anywhere out west. Lots of high Pressure in the rockies and Sierras. Warm weather in the Pac/Nw.

We're doing OK out here in CO... snow this week and supposedly something brewing for Xmas weekend. As for timing... I skied last year on New Years eve and it was pretty empty. I'd imagine New Year's day is even emptier. I don't know too much about MLK weekend here in Colorado, but I never really encountered any lines last year and I skied every weekend.

Because of the way X-Mas and New Years falls this year, I wouldn't go the week in between. The week after New Years (Jan 1 - Jan 8th) would be excellent and the week after until Jan 14th will be just as good.

Summit County is really getting dumped on, so I can at least vouch for this area.
