B5's, M:11's, 6-Star's, RX8's, other...

Hi All,

Former UVM racer just moved to San Fran Will be skiing Tahoe every weekend. 31 years old, 5'7", 160lbs, still a bit of a maniac. Enjoy steeps, air, and varying-radius turns on fast groomers. (I love the Palisades, KT-22, and Granite Chief at Squaw)

What makes my mouth water: Drop-in, some jump turns in a narrow couloir, short linked turns on the steep headwall, a 10-foot drop off a boulder, into some fast GS turns leaning over so far my shoulder almost touches the uphill.

Currently Own: GS:11's in 176, Volkl GS Racestock in 182. I demoed less-racy all-mountain types out East last year, but found them to be either imprecise or too soft - Volkl 5-Star in 172 for example.

I'm looking for a powerful all-mountain ski more suited to the conditions at Tahoe: perhaps a bit more waist and a bit more sidecut.

Planning on demoing all if possible, but looking for some input specific to my ski-bio from those who have time in on these skis. B5's sound most intriguing, but it also seems that a 162 would suit me best, and I'm not sure I would be happy skiing that short... would a longer M:11 lack the power I want? Other suggestions - Volkl, Fischer, Nordica?

All input appreciated.

Many good skis to consider. At 160 Lbs you will get plenty of float from a top quality midfat and be more at home on the groomed slopes.

The Elan M666 and/or Magfire 12 Laminate construction The Magfire 12 is a little less forgiving than the M666, both are versatile & fun.

Dynastar Legend 8000 One of the top all mountain skis

Stockli Stormrider XL Laminate construction, quick feeling

Rossignol Bandit B3 Versatile, better than last years version.

Finally, the Nordica Hot Rod Modified Great GS turns in all conditions

Hope that helps!
