LIGHT SNOW WILL MOVE INTO THE LAKE TAHOE AREA AND LASSEN COUNTY
LATE TONIGHT -snip-
Yeah, tell me about it. Did a day trip to Kirkwood on Sat. I was going to bring my chains just in case but forgot. (I keep the chains in my trunk, however this was my first day of the season.) I didn't worry too much as they were saying snow would start late night. I was thinking if the snow comes early and hits in the afternoon, I'll just leave early. But it started to snow before 11AM, so had to stop skiing and drive out 30 minutes to Ham station to buy a set of chains to be safe. Drove back and skied the rest of the day, but it started snowing really hard by 3PM, and a lot of cars were caught off guard on the drive back before chain control set in. Total mess ensued on the road, with cars sliding around all over the place and spinning wheels. As for my buddy and me, the chains I bought, even though it said on the box and the catalog that it would fit my tires, was an extremely tight fit, so we had to struggle for almost an hour devising various ways to be able to hook it up. It took us over 4 hours just to get to Jackson. (It normally takes about 1hr 15 minutes, and maybe 2 hours on a chain-control day). Very interesting day, almost 10 hours of driving for 5 hours of skiing. :-o But the skiing was VERY nice. Snow quality at Kirkwood is awesome right now. Should be amazing after this big storm, that's supposed to last till Monday.
