No ETA on any of that. Spaulding will be Real Soon Now. (Yes, there's already been limited openings.)
There's a lot of avy danger, A LOT. At this point, more snow might mean it'll take longer. Odd factoid: Copper has more above treeline skiing than pretty much anywhere in the state, including Vail. I would expect terrain opening there in early January. It's tough to say though. It really doesn't look like that will be open for X-Mas. However, it's completely at the discretion of patrol, so they could decide to do directed skiing into Copper Bowl as they've done in the past. The advantage of directed skiing is setting up proper compression on the slope. The ski patrol duty station located at the top of Mtn Chief is already operating. Copper Bowl openings, in particular Alicante, aren't unknown - we did it in 02/03.
At this point the focus will be opening all of the Union Creek terrain this weekend. That'll make 100% of our green/blue terrain open. I imagine there's a lot of work that has to be done by patrol to mark hazards, etc.
(We just discussed all that this morning, so there isn't any other info floating around about that. The only information available are people's guesses.)
