Yesterday, I waded through a long thread over there regarding waxing techniques. After that I realized that these people are rather behind the times when it comes to skiing. This would be more due to regional differences and biases than their aged posting regulars. Try making a case that above tree line skiing doesn't cut the mustard compared to New England trail skiing. You'll find yourself banned from the forum. Go over there if you are interested in looking at photos of pregnant women and old bags skiing their back yards. Otherwise, you will find more current data here. It compares to AlpineZone.com which is run by people whose only Alpine experience would be in the Jewish Alps i.e. the Catskills.

I am not going to really touch this one. I have heard the "You ain't like us" for a lot of years. There is some good information to be had over there.

I'm from Europe, so forgive me if I get this wrong, but isn't that a bit of an anti semitic slang term?

Without wanting to be overly politically correct I suggest that you refrain from using terms like that....

On the contrary, even though I don't post there often, I find that most of the info there is very well informed, particularly the current avy conditions in my area. I use ttips & utah avalanche center every morning and get a wealth of knowledge. Same goes for equipment & tmark technique.

It DOES however have a strong telemark bias and, for whatever reason ATSKIER has an axe to grind with freeheelers. Maybe it's his need to somehow validate his ATness against the perceived cooler tele crowd. Or that he was somehow wronged by a tele skier. Just to make him feel better, I'll say it here: AT skiers are good people, too. :

I'm hoping that was the warm and fuzzy that he's been needing to bring a modicum of community and brotherhood to his otherwise very helpful posts.

Well that explains a lot. For those that don't know Swiftskier has made a living out of getting kicked off various boards. He has used 2000+ aliases and usually come onto a board, makes a jackass out of himself, gets found out, and leaves. I'm guessing we don't hear from him again, at least not under this name.

The term "Jewish Alps" .... aka ... "The Borscht Belt", was the vacation retreat for the New Yorkers and the brunt of it's own jokes.

97% of the comedians were from the Kosher hotels up there many with tiny ski areas attached. The list could go on and on .... Rodney Dangerfield, Jackie Mason ...

The movie, Dirty Dancing .... was a pure Grossingers .... Catskill "drama".

How depressing. We have a lot of words and expressions which derive from the exodus of Jews from Europe to our country in the last 60 years, many of them are Yiddish. As you can see from the kind of posts on this thread, they went from the frying pan into the fire. Americans can be much more brutal and disgusting than the Nazi's were. These kinds love to hide behind there websites and computers since they are such cowards at heart. Borscht Belt was a new one for me, it seems a bit of a reflection on the Russian exodus of late.

Hey, if you need it.

If you want to waste your time with these websites, go right ahead. Personally, I know enough about skiing not to need them and I don't see any return on my investment when it comes to offering my expert and educated opinons.
