Check your garages- looking for Spalding/Persenico race skis for the 70's, Siderals, Formidables, Numero Uno's, Formula Uno's. Alfa 450's

Also Caber boots from same period- Deltas, Comps, Alfas.

Ramy poles????If you have anything PM me!

hey jamesk,
a nice surprise to see this post. my first pair of skis was a 180 spaulding formidable 390, purchased in late 1979 (i believe).
after 7 years away from the sport, it was my only ski for 3 winters - till 5 seasons back. i'd, of course get all sorts of looks - having the only ancient ski with runaway straps on the mountain any given day. after leaving 'em in the attic, basement etc for years, they've actually just been moved to the closet with my other skiis, awaiting a fresh set of bindings and a tune. dating back from days when all i knew was groomed snow, ice etc, the bases+edges look quite fresh...and unlike my other skiis, they never saw a single rock or stump...i'm actually looking foward to taking them out again as a spring bump ski - at least for a run or two.
are you seeking these for an exhibit, or do you plan to ski them??

I like retro skis as much, if not more than the next guy...but why Spaulding and Caber?????:

I used to have a pair of Spalding Competition F, they were truly a great ski, at least for where I was in my developement as a skier. I think they were a detuned version of the Sidereal slalom or something. It was long ago.

I went to Spalding Numero Uno race camp in Montana in the '70s & skied tons of Siderals and Formidables. After dozens of apartments and moves and 30 years who knows where they are now? Go Gustavo!!

OK just FYI Its SPALDING not SPAULDING!

I have almost every version from 72 through 85 when they stopped importing. I was a long time Spalding skier and just wanted to round out the missing items- I will even take a Spalding TF pre-Sideral.

I know sad isnt it! I am the same way- I just cant bring myself to just throw them out and certainly cant sell them- well maybe it seems! I was a big Gustavo Thoeni fan and Spalding skis were the best skis out there during this time- especially the Squadra Corse years. Look into those basements!

Any luck?

The Squadra Corse were nice looking skis. Those graphics still look fresh.

I remember a buddy bought the Siderals...or as he liked to call them the Shiterals.

I have the goods

I have a beautiful pair of bright safety orange Spalding "Numero Uno" Sideral GS 210's. They have never been drilled. They have the Italian Ski Pool stickers on them still. They are for sale to a good home (don't even think about drilling them)!

You can email me @ tmwsales@charter.net

A couple of weeks ago, someone brought a pair of brand new Spalding's into my local shop and had Look bindings mounted on them. I heard that they bought the skis from one of the Building 19 stores in MA or NH. Maybe some list members would be willing to check their local stores to help you out. The skis sold for less than $20.
Good luck.

For a real trivia gem, try to find the Italian market graphics. They had the manufacturer's name "Persenico" written on them, rather than Spalding, an American sports company that distributed them here. Still used the names Sideral and Formidable.

Yo Philpug! A Clarification?

AKA FlexonPhil,

Just so we don't waste any more time with this thread: What does "Banned" under "jamesk" and "vail99" mean? Is this priviledged info or can we get some straight dope of the circumstances for this designation under their handles?

These are going back over a year, before I was a moderator. IIRC, these two particular handles were 'sockpuppets' (multible names being used from the same person). I could be wrong though.

Ahhh yes, those neon yellowish green Formi-dahbs.
Hey Hampie, I was at a K2 camp at Cooke City in I think, '72.
Three of us left Maine in VW bus with 35 pairs of (K2) skis that we got from Peter Webber.
What a trip!!
Skied on both the K2 and Spaulding in college.
What camp did you attend?
