Opening weekend in Fernie. Last weeks powder is very wind crusted now. It's really tough crust to fight, however it's not bad after it's cut up some. Coverage isn't too bad for early season. For an honest report of Fernie conditions. http://far.redtree.com/cgmrep.html
According to my daughter Big White has been awesome this season so far. Sounds like a much destination than Fernie right now, prices are a lot more reasonable too.
Although the high are presently keeping the storms at bay in BC, all this talk of rocks is nothing new to an Australian. Due to our relatively low altitude and marginal snow, we need to dodge the odd rock or two even at the peak of a "good" season.
Liquid Nails! thanks for the pix-- Here in Oregon we got off to an early start-- a relief after last year-- and now have pretty decent coverage despite the current long-lasting high pressure system & inversion (feels like the Rockies in Portland, warmer up on Mt. Hood).
