Salomon doesn't need to step anything up. They build great skis, they are just different
and many people are too thick-skulled to understand that different
Do I personally like 'em? Some of 'em, some of the time. I definitely don't think they have the widest appeal amongst really good skiers, but many of the gapers love
them. I would posit that the company that can sell 900 dollar skis to largely incompetent skiers and have those skiers really enjoy those skis is doing a better job than the company that build burly manly Austrian skis that are only saleable to people who know what they are doing.
I personally know some very talented skiers who choose Salomon, and by talented I don't mean old fogies with PSIA memberships, I mean really aggressive, strong, young guys. This image they have of being unskiable is clearly just made up by boneheads that can't ski anyways.
Oh, and the idea that Vail is number one is equally laughable as Salomon being unskiable. Gimme a break...number one in what? Slopeside condos?
