I climbed up the strip of man-made snow and skied a few runs at Purgatory on Sunday. They are scheduled to open this Saturday and claim an 18” mid-way base, which is based on the storm last week. Other than the couple of runs that are covered with man-made snow, the remainder of the mountain has 15” or less of fairly light new snow sitting on top of dirt. If you plant you pole it goes right to the ground (totally unskiable). It looks like they will be opening with the classic “white ribbon of death” consisting of a couple of short intermediate runs funneling into just one run to the bottom. Pray for snow!
