Atomic SL 11

Thread Starter
Picked up a pair of these hot rods from a fellow at work. He is a fairly serious recreational racer and skied these 5 or 6 times last season.

I wanted a "short, turny" ski that I could have fun with on the hardpack groomers we ski here in the lower peninsula of MI.

I did not get a chance to demo these skis, but knew from the reviews and the feedback from a friend who is a race coach that they would fit the bill. Besides the price was right- $350 for boards and binders!

Background:

Me- 6'2", 215lbs, level 8-9, aggressive, fast skier
Boots- Technica Icon Alu
Binding- Neox 412
Ski- Atomic SL 11 165cm
Area- Bittersweet in Otsego, MI (http://www.skibittersweet.com)
Conditions- Man made snow/ice

I can't remember the last time I was on a ski so short! It felt funny to say the least!

I started out on a green run to just get the feel of the ski, and quickly discovered that these things like to turn! Wow, it was like driving an Indy car into the corner at 200 mph!

I took a few runs, carving some gentle turns before I decided to "let 'em rip".

This is a demanding ski that requires you to actively ski it at all times, you cannot just let them ride, they need your input. I stared doing tighter and tighter turns with very quick edge changes, man, what a ride!

I found thes to be a stable ski at speed as long as you continue to turn them. The edge grip is fantastic for the stellar conditions here in Michigan. Going from hard pack to ice was not difficult, and on the ice I did not notice any signifigant slippage. I don't think this is an overly stiff ski for an aggressive skier, but like I said, you can't fall asleep at the wheel. I can't wait to get out there tomorrow night and over the weekend when they should have more terrain opened up.

All I can say is- "What a ride!" If you have the means, I highly sugesst picking up a pair of these rockets!

If you have any questions, I'll be happy to try and answer them.

I got a pair this year of my own and will echo everything you said. They are great short turn carving skis and handle ice better than any ski I have ever skied before.
