So, I shouldn't harass you or any of your acquaintances about spelling?

If you think there's "retarded children" at TGR, then don't ever look at the forum at Newschoolers.com.

I think John summed it up best - TGR is the bar, and this place is the restaurant. I'm akin to an alcoholic, constantly getting plastered in the bar, but I wander over here in a drunken stupor from time to time, usually not to dine, but just look at what everyone's eating.

Trekchick - They'll surely love you over at TGR. The male to female ratio is even more skewed over there. The bar's always open there, with the abundance of alcohol saturated, loud-mouth guys. That watering hole is a tough place for the fairer gender. However, they're (we're) a testosterone-rich and ravenous bunch who will want you to stick around, so they'll (we'll) treat you with kid gloves once they find out your gender. If you can hang over there and wade through our b.s. (a flame or two if you post something terribly Jong-ish, the slew of "NSFW" posts, the constant ribbing between friends, etc.), you'll be treated like a queen.

I've never read anything that would suggest the average level of literacy at TGR is lower than here at Epic. If anything, it's a few bars higher. Slang usage doesn't demonstrate an inferior grasp of the language. :

I'm a double agent. I spend time on both boards. I spent a lot of time here devouring info on skis. This forum is an extremely valuable resource.

One day I had a question that someone couldn't answer, but that person figured someone on the TGR board could. So I made my way to the TGR board and asked it... and I got ripped apart. ...but I stuck with it, trying to get my question answered and I quickly realized that amidst the unfriendliness was quite a bit of humor. I quickly became hooked, following the humorous banter and the stunning pictures. I felt at home.

For me, this board is more mechanical. It's a resource, but that's it. I don't have that connection with this place like I do with the TGR board.

Some may think there's a lot of useless info in the threads at TGR. This is mostly true... buuuuuuuuut, I learn a lot following threads there because they are always entertaining, and amongst the useless info is some really helpful and interesting stuff. Here I'm only going to read threads on specific things. I won't read most of the threads.

I'm sure to some this is home. That's good. No community can be right for everyone. Just because it's not my community doensn't mean it's not a good one.

I don't really care for the negative sentiment toward this board that some of the maggots have and I definitely don't care for the snobbery over here suggesting that the maggots are classless. The maggots might be crude, but they always lend a helping hand, to each other, and to those outside the community.

I will also co-sign on the age observation. I'm 25. I've probably met over 50 of the maggots and almost all of those are older than me. I would guess the median age is right around 30. Are 30 year old's kids?

second childhood

When I get the chance, I'm gonna go into my second childhood. This time I'm gonna have fun doing some of the things I didn't try the first time through.

In the Epic clubhouse, there's a poster of Pierce Brosnan.
In the TGR clubhouse, there's a poster of Vin Diesel.

A Bear drives his Cadilac SUV to a Starbucks.
A Maggot rides his cycle to a Rave.

When a Bear visits the Jersey shore, he catches Natalie Cole in an Atlantic City casino.
When a Maggot visits the Jersey shore, he hangs on the Wildwood boardwalk.

Uh...

I think only female maggots would be hanging posters of Vin Diesel. And even then I don't even think he did very well in the "Hottest Men" picture thread.

The most popular Maggot vehicle is most likely a Subaru. But that could be tied with trucks.

And I don't know any Maggots that would voluntarily be going to Jersey on their vacation.

hey um I posted this topic with no mention of TGR.. what the hell happened?? Other than the fact that I joined TGR, this post hasn't done much to affect me... what about the dumbass kids at my local hill?? The ones who stole my GF's poles today... I am going to kick some ass if those poles aren't recovered...

A tad older? Hey youngster, I've got news for you. There're punks over on TGR's forums but the vast majority of the posters are older than you think. I'm 46, and I think all the shit that flies over there makes it more of an entertaining realistic place. Most of the shit slinging is guys giving thier buddies a hard time. They're just not so stuffy over there, that's all.

Epic ski needs the"padded room" forum. The NSFW`s are great over there.

I'm so glad this thread got ressurrected. I needed a good laugh. Just about every post is a damn hoot, for different reasons. And this one (wipes away tears of hilarity) Vin Diesel? Holy crap, no!

Chortle.

IMO, the only way to resolve this controversy is a dance off between the Maggots and the Bears.

Seriously, this all seems a little silly, especially the elitism of both sides. I have been in a lot of forums on the web and some are good while others are horrible. IMHO both forums are good and focus on different aspects of skiing and thus compliment each other. I am not a member of the TGR forum currently but I would not hesitate to join.

I suspect no one who posts on TGR uses ski totes......
