Breck's Imperial Express Lift opens Dec 5th - Page 2

Rode it as soon as it opened today, but you couldn'texit left off the lift only right. A snowcat had completely ruined the top 50ft, so you had to take off your ski's and walk down to get into the bowl. Once there it was firm, but fun. A big thums up overall

You can take your skis off and walk up the hike just a little ways and then cut left.

That area gets really wind blown. I think they'll eventually figure out how to get more snow to stick there with some fencing.

Its all GOOD! Make sure you hit the T-Bar North Bowl (towards Peak 7) some nice snow in the Boundary Chutes area. Enjoy! & we got some Fresh waiting just for you! (Best snow in 20+ years pre X-mas!)

There's some good advice on lifts & such at breck in these threads:

I'm looking for some long fast groomers, and some steep and deep powder...I noticed that there is a snowboarding competition this week there, does this mean that the parks are going to closed to the public?

Gretch- I highly suggest going to A-Basin for a day. Its a great mountain, they have almost all the terrain open, and the snow was awesome last weekend. We've gotten ~6 more inches in the last day with a little bit more on the way- so it should be nice. No crowds, either.

I wish they would open up the east wall though....that is one reason why we might not ski the basin....as far as terrian...I like trees...I like bumps....I like steeps....I like the park....terrain wise...the harder the better....

Gretch now that you have given a hint as to the terrain you like...Here is where to ski at Breck.

Peak 10...The Burn (north facing) Watch for stumps in there though. The South side of 10 (Blackhawk etc etc)

All the terrain under 6 chair

Horseshoe/Cucumber and Contest Bowls

All the terrain on the North side of Peak 9 (Toms/Inferno Devils Crotch) and the South side of Peak 8 (Mach 1 / Tiger etc etc)

You can stay on E-Lift forever with no line (Peak 9's North side.

And, of course all the stuff to the right of the T-Bar and the new Imperial lift.

NON SKIING---Try the soups at the Peak 9 summit restraurant !

Hard snow....LOL (sorry)

It shouldn't because it's going to be cold. If the wind picks up it'll blow some areas hard but other than that no problem. Cold temps are what you want to keep the snow nice and dry. 6" of new last night.

They're going to need a lot more to open the East Wall. That usually doesn't open until February or so.

Being that you are only going to be at Vail one day....Cut the "tour" advise short about Lunch time and Go look in the Tea Cup and Orient Express lift areas of the bowls...

There is a great variety of terrain in that area from groomed to hidden little stashes in Shangra La. (though not that steep....but North facing) bumps, cornices and some cliffs of all sizes to play with under the Tea Cup lift..

Have FUN !
