Jacqueline Simonsen. She isn't well-known in the ultramarathon circles, so I'd be surprised if you are familiar with her name (but it would be cool if you are). In fact, when she qualified for Badwater, she figured she'd be put in one of the early starts. But, she was put in the latest start, where all the top runners are placed. Guess her results in the races she's done were too good to make her anonymous. I have to admit I'm not sure which races she's competed in, but I know in other races she's beaten some of the women who placed better than her in Badwater. She thought she had a very good chance of placing high in Badwater, and she was in 3rd place for quite a bit, but then she collapsed. She lost a lot of time because of it. My husband says he's surprised that she recovered and was able to finish the race. On the leg going up Mt. Whitney, she was really cruising, but just missed that 48-hour mark to get the Badwater belt buckle. That's why she's determined to do it again.
And yes, Jurek is pretty darn amazing.
