So, will I like Heavenly based on my favorite Breck runs?
I don't want to book into a lame mountain (for tough intermediates).
I think I agree with you. Breck is not a good mountain for those who want steep groomed runs. There's a lot of easy groomers and a lot ungroomed advanced/expert.
They know it's a problem. And as skiers age it could turn into a significant problem. They have experimented with grooming very steep runs with a winchcat but, IMO, it was a disaster. Once the groomed steeps ice up they are basically ruined for the season because snow won't stick to them.
Because Breck looks flat from town, people don't realize that before the Peak 7 intermediate runs were built Breck had the highest percentage of advanced/expert (black+) in Colorado. (Higher than A-Basin). This will probably again be the case if/when they add the new hikable terrain.
PS. I believe they plan on running a groomer down the east ridge of Peak 8. It'll be an interesting experience as it's the highest groomer in North America.
