ancient bindings

Can anyone tell me if an old pair of marker m31's would be a good match for a set of salomon X screams. I'm trying to cut corners on cost, and I found these markers in my basement. They were skied 2 seasons by my dad about ten years ago. I'm wondering if they could potentially last a couple more seasons, or if I'm waisting my time. Would there be any performance loss compared to something on the market today? This set up will be for all mountain purposes, FAST groomers, cliffs etc.

skiing ability: height 5'11, 180lbs., level eight skier.

Thanks for the help bears,
Huck

No- simple!

Doesn't the DIN on those only go up to 9? I would expect that they might not be a beefy enough binding for some one your size and ability and who apparently skis aggressively.

In all likelihood, the springs are no longer good and the bindings will not provide consistent release/retention. Run away. :

If you decide to try them anyway, please at least have them release tested... If you can find anyone to do that... :

It goes up to ten, the only reason I asked that silly question, was figuring in my dad weighed 265 lbs at the time. I figured with my weight being so much less, I might get away them.

thanks for getting back,

ssh,
How would performance be compared to the same binding at today's standard? I will have them tested, and I know my dad took great care of them. He probably got 20 days on them before their retirement.

Cheers,
Huck

Here are some factors to consider.

The M-31 was a low end binding to start with.
Ten year old springs will not be at their best.
Some folks have reported retention issues with Markers in the past.

This combo does not sound like a great fit for an agressive skier.

JMO and YMMV

dang, I am late....

NO, don't use them, they are POS's

Please let us sleep safe in the knowledge that you will not use those bindings. If you're looking to save money, check out ebay. Here's what the bargain hunter dug up:

That "missing part" doesn't look important and will ensure a LOW price...

Don't use them. Your knees (and other body parts) are too precious to be trusted to old bindings. I don't have a copy of the indemnification list with me, but I'd be willing to bet that its not on there, meaning that you'd be hard pressed to get a shop to mount them anyways.

Would you be intrested in some Insurance.:

The Marker 31 were safe bindings. Not only did they release when you fell but for added safety they would while you were skiing.

Thanks everyone for getting back to me . I decided not to sacrifice my knees to the mercy of the Snow Gods . I went with a set of look p12s. Cost was a bit more than free, but I gotta make these legs last.

Thanks a lot,
Huck
