Rentals for condos - VRBO.com?

Has anyone ever used VRBO.com? That stands for Vacation Rentals By Owners.

There are some decent looking places with some decent looking rates. You have to pick through them and it helps if you know the property they are in at least a little bit.

I assume the owners rent the places for themselves rather than through a management company.

Does anyone know any other good places to get great rates on condos in or very near the ski areas?

Thanks!
Ty

Rented a Condo in Park City last year. Whoe thing went very smoothly and the condo was everything promised. Would definately use it again based on that experience.

used them heaps. Very happy with them and are always the first place we look.

They sound great! Also, you may want to check out www.onlinevacationrentals.com

We found our ski in/out Lake Tahoe house for rent there. So far the experience has been great (booking, getting info from the owner, etc). And we're saving a ton of $$$ because we don't have to pay for property management, taxes, and all that BS.

Our trip is in early Jan, so we'll post a review including our experience renting our house.

I'll join the crowd for VRBO. It's great, used it a bunch, and always had results higher than expectations !

Used VRBO last year for a place in Tahoe. Beautiful home at the price of a hotel room, super nice owners, definitely would not hesitate to use it again.

I tried this for Copper to compare to my VRBO experiences in Colorado and only got resort properties. Not what I was hoping for....

Not for the ameniities he's offering. I stayed in a similar place through VRBO back in 1998 and it was a steal at $1800 for the week. The places I've stayed at in Copper were nice (under $200 per night for ski in, walk 50 yards to the lifts) but didn't approach the level of luxury of these Keystone condos. All depends on what you're looking for. If you're looking for a mix of convenience and luxury, the price he's offering is pretty fair.

competitive rates

Lars-
I highly doubt you are doing an apples to apples comparison.
I have done significant homework for Keystone and know for sure that I am very competitively priced ($429-$499/night Winter non-Xmas including Taxes and cleaning fee). Be careful - when you scan VRBO and see the price ranges realize that this includes summer rates (I was ~260/night). So, it is believeable that you can rent a 3br in the summer for ~$150. Again, not apples to apples.

Anyways - the 10% discount offer stands and I would bet that other epicski members who have done their comparitive shopping, desiring a walk to lifts location, and amenities as my condo offers for their vacation, would find it an attractive offer.

guy

Ty, Ya I know. I'm just bustin horns in my own sick way. I have no doubt that your condo is prima. My levity was about the price. Most of the people here aren't looking to dump a fortune on lodging, they're looking for reasonable digs at a good price. I've used VRBO at least a dozen times with sucess. I know how it works. Again, I hope I didn't offend you.

You also may want to try: http://www.cyberrentals.com/

We just rented our Sugarbush, VT condo through them. They have listings for the entire US.

Try this also, especially for Canadian resorts

ownerdirect.com

Same idea, greater use in BC especially, including Whistler and the interior

Another good source is www.craigslist.org. Just go to the city nearest your destination and search under vacation rentals with key word "ski". You may have to search more than one city but it's worth poking around there. Caveat emptor -- probably more so than VRBO, cyberrentals, etc., but I've had good luck in VT, MA and NY with craigslist finds.
