First day of lift served skiing for me today. Was absolulely surprised as how good it was. About 9" of fluffy new overnight, on top of consolidated heavier snow from last storm. Crowds were medium.
Sometimes you have an epiphany out of the blue, and I had two today:
- No matter how much time/effort you log with excersises adn other workouts, the real thing still beats you up. I have been skining up the mountains around here repeatedly for the last three weeks and have spent even more time on a Nordic Trak. Still, putting in that many lift served turn this morning gave me thigh burn like it was my 1st day of the season.
- It is absolutley amazing the power of teens to want to fit in with their peeps. Here it was, an amazing day of relatively crowd free skiing through good light density snow, and there they all are; crowding together in the one run that has the terrain park. That run has already been scrapped down to the hard snowmaking surface, making it a bear to ski under flat light conditions, and you guessed it: mobbed with teens tryin' to be cool.
Under Bonanza. Coverage surprisingly good.
Top of Powder Keg (non snowmaking run). A good 9" of fresh off to the sides.
More of Powder Keg.
