Wow! I didn't really mean to hijack what started out as a ski thread and turn it into a political one. LOL
But anyway. I do love the US. Anywhere I have been, people have been super nice. I've always been impressed by the layed back attitude that most folks have. I 'm not much for larger cities so I tend to avoid them, but any smaller places locals tend to be very hospitable and make you feel right at home.
I'm just not impressed by the Bush administration's politics. The one up and coming requiring folks to get passports to cross the border is a dandy. I myself always keep a current passport, so it's not an issue for me personally.
In Fernie here there is a fairly large number of ppl 55+ who go into the US (Eureka Montana) every Sunday, for a few beers and to plug some quarters into the gambling machines and maybe have supper. These folks have been doing this for years. I think once passports become manditory a lot of these people won't bother getting one. The sunday tourists are a huge part of this little towns economy, and it is going to suffer.
Canada/US has hundereds of miles of unprotected border. Does The Bush administration really think passports are going to keep the boogie man out, if he really wants in? But we all know it will keep a good number of tourists from crossing both ways...kinda bizzare if you think about it, an American citizen will be able to come into Canada without a passport but, he won't be able to get back into his own country without one. Welcome to America Land of The Free...and the Paranoid.
I apoligize one more time for the rant. From now on I promise to keep my mouth shut...Unless there is a serious ski discussion happening.
