What Are You Using For Rock Skis?

Thread Starter
Just wondering what you are using this year for rock skis, and what did you use them for last year? Since this is going to be only my 3rd season on skis, I will be using my first skis, Volkl energy 280s,( I think that's the #) for poor conditions or potential bare spots and obsticles. I have a couple of new skis for better snow, That is if and when we get GOOD snow around here. What are you using this year for your rock skis and when were they not rock skis?

~2000 Volkl Vectris. They can carve, but they chatter egregiously. Great for blue hills in Dec though.

Last year's PE's (179) . . figure if I'm going to be grinding with 'em, I might as well destroy the bases too.

A pair of worn out Dynamic Mystics, made by Atomic. Best ski I ever had, but this is their fourth season. I hate to abuse them, but I hate bad skis even more.

186cm 2001 Salomon Supermountains with around 80-100 days on them. Still a good crud/powder ski. A bit worn down to use on hard stuff.
181cm 2002 Rossignol Viper X PPS with around 50-60 days on them. Still a good carving ski & fun in the bumps.
177cm 2003 Rossignol RPM 21 with only 7-10 days on them. Good all-around ski I bought dirt cheap to use early in the season.

I've got some 4x4 Bigs with flames. They may graduate to my rock powder skis. Not enough side cut and geez, those flames.

173 Volant Powerkarve. I got them on ebay for a thriy cent bid, so I didn't feel bad when I rocked them heavily the second half of last season. They have some major delamination in the tips which I filled with epoxy. They were still great skis, though a bit short for me.

183 Salomon XScream 700. I started last season on them, ripped the hell out of them, got a full shop tune once we got some good snow. The snow disappeared, and ripped them up again, then started buying Volants like a junkie with a bad habit.

For rock skis, i'm using my '02 Dynastar Speed SX 63's @178 cm. They have about 100 days on them, are in pretty nice shape excet the cosmetics, edges sharp, waxed and ready to go in early season

used them until late March 05 when i got my new Atomic SX10's

Rossi Mtn. Viper 9.9's. Edge on one ski is about to go and there is a big divot in one base. They still ski pretty well, though.

Hey Phil, how about your mis-matched-metrons; are those going to be rock skis this year?

Yeah, my answer was going to be: "None - I live near Mt. Baker!"

It's nice to gloat after last year's drubbing.

Oh, I neglected to mention, by spring time I'll have mounted my 193 Powerkarves for low coverage situations. I have the bindings now, and I plan to have them shop mounted, so first I have to recover from my financial hemoraging, caused by gearing up this fall .
I will be using some Salomon(Fischer) X-Free 7 with homemade TwinTips, and NOS Riva C Tele bindings. If they last till the new yaer, I will be surprised. I am gonna beat the living sh!t out of them!

Year before lasts in strucor ski's, Atomic Sla 170 because students are alway skiing on my ski's became quickly PNW rock skis last year, used 2 and 1/2 sticks of Ptex on them just to get them back to decent. So they're well used/beatup and are my official rock skis this year also. Things look good so far. SNOWWWW!!
