Other than the new chair at Breck, is their any significant expansion at any ski area in the rockies for 2005-06?

Mary Jane at Winter Park - "The Super Gauge Express is our new high-speed detachable six-pack chairlift replacing the existing Summit Express quad."

No expansion, but new construction anyway

Others correct me if I'm wrong here, but I believe the most significant development in the west is Big Sky & Moonlight basin sharing the lift ticket amicably. 5300 lift served acres without two tickets and the drive/hassle that would entail.

I've never skied there, but the lift into highland bowl at Aspen Highlands I'm sure is up there for many.

Access to the north side of Lone Mountain (which Moonlight owns) will finally be allowed via the Big Sky tram. That will open up some wicked terrain. Moonlight has also added the Headwaters chair which has got to be one of the steepest chairs in the nation. It provides lift access to the Headwaters Bowl chutes which were previously only accessible via a grueliing hike.

via a grueliing hike.

Cmon man... it was/is a great hike. 17 min. to the top of the new lift.....

What we are doing IS pretty cool....

Big Sky is opening on Sunday for 1 day only.... Challenger Swifty & explorer.... We still pan to open on the 25th.... snowing here again as I type.

Theres the whole new resort in idaho The first new mountain to open in 20 years or more. Park City Mountain Resort has cut some new runs on the town side of the mountain, plus a new lift was put in to access a new condo project. Niether of the park City projects are 1/2 as exciting as Moonlight and Big Sky combo pass.

ski Santa Fe has a new lift, the Millenium Triple adding a small amount of vertical and improving access to terrain. They say they've done some work on the tree runs too, but don't know exactly what.

Well it won't happen this year, and is just beginning the public comment phase for Forest Service approval, but Montana Snowbowl has posted it's master developement plan for TV Mountain on their web site just this past week. It includes three new chair lifts, a T-bar, and a rope tow I believe. The map of proposed developement isn't all that great to look at, but if the proposal gets approved, it will provide lift service to what will be probably the steepest terrain in the ski area (where there already is a fair amount of 33+ degree terrain). It also will open much more green and blue runs and a terrain park.

If the proposal is accepted, Snowbowl first needs to complete the widening of it's access road, which likely won't be completed next summer. Look at the plan at http://montanasnowbowl.com

They cut the trees, I can see it from my house and have been following the progress, but the lift will not be up until next year.
