Epic Opening Weekend At Copper Mt

I went up to Copper today expecting a couple inches new to do a few cruisers and work out the kinks from a long hot summer. Imagine my surprise when I got there and found 11 inches new. It was just awful. I had to ski powder my first run of the season. About 10 AM they opened Ptarmigan on the upper Mt and I was forced to ski 11" untracked or cut up powderfor a few runs before needing some coffee. Later back on the lift I noticed patrol working the ropes on two of the black runs under the Excellerator lift and I thought Oh No not again. I skied down and unfortunately I had to wait 3 long minutes for patrol to cut the ropes for 2+ ft of untracked natural black terrain (except for where the poachers had been). My legs were jelly by 1PM and it took a nice bottle of a Cabernet Sauvignon and a soak in the hot tub to recover when I got home. The final report for Copper was 15" new. Loveland got 14" and A-Basin 12" by the way. My wife who had a cold and couldn't go is in denial.

Depending upon her nature and skills, the Gods may have smiled upon you. I love my wife dearly. But, she's a moderate skier, and on a powder day it's difficult to balance good husband (caretaker) and pow freak.

The internal conflict can lead to melt-down.

I was there with SCSA -- it was amazing. My first real powder experience on fats/mid-fats (Metron M:EX's). Now I know why folks rave about powder! :-)

174cm K2 XPs. I had my Legend 8000s but decided not to risk them this early so I used my older K2s. It turns out I only hit 2 rocks all day. Not bad for Nov 5. I almost wished I had my Legend 8800s!

I was there too...what a wonderful day! Lucky for me I had the Made'ns in the truck!

I agree with Cal...the 6 inch rule is already in place!

Thats cool man! Glad you had a sweet opening day. We did last weekend, but no wheres to ski now, and to early to travel just yet. Pack down a good base for us

6" rule is where work is optional in the am. too bad the forecast storm isn't gonna hit today...must not believe the weather hype. arg....

Still sitting down here in the desert waiting for that elusive powder storm to slide down into NM. I'm contemplating a trip up to Colorado now for 13-16 of November depending on the weather. Is A-Basin about the best bet right now or somewhere else?
Loveland right now is the best bet.
