Ski Magazine and NASTAR are sponsoring a writing contest for kids 13 and under. Kids can participate by posting their entries on the NASTAR forum web site: There is no cost or pre-requisite to enter.

I think it's a great idea. Writing is an important skill, and I'm sure all of you have written something that has made a lasting impression. Writing made an impression on Bode Miller; he published one of his poems in his new bio.

This experience could help our kids deepen their love for skiing by encouraging them to write about our sport. It could build a stronger sense of community between young ski racers. It could impart a sense of scholar-athlete in many young minds. And, even kids who don't participate can have fun by reading the entries.

Its my hope that those of you who coach or teach kids of eligible age will encourage them to participate.

From the NASTAR site:

The Writing Contest is for Kids 13 years and younger. Kids can submit a short story or poem of less than 250 words about their racing experience. NASTAR & SKI Magazine staff will judge entrants and the winner will be awarded an Atomic ski package. The winner may also be asked to read their story or poem at the NASTAR National Championships.
