I was into the early (76-80) freestyle scene, had Spademans (mounted on scott boots of course) and had no problems with them. Maybe I just got lucky?
Spademans were a variant of the plate binding craze of the day, just with a really small plate. The good feature of all of these bindings were bonafide upwards toe release. Current bindinga have it, but typically appear to have very little upwards toe movement or have a diagonal upwards toe release.
I am curious why there is not something like them today given all the park/pipe twintip skiing that people are doing.
