Comparing twins to something like the Volkl 6 Star or Fischer RX8 is way off. You should compare them to skis with a similar waist width. Most twins have waists that put them into the mid-fat to fat categories. Compared to skis in the same category they generally are a bit softer and don't do as well on hard snow & ice. They generally do not hold a carve as well as a normal ski especially if you shift your weight back during a turn. While some people don't like this others (including myself) do because it means they are easier to release from a turn especially in off-piste conditions. Their softer flex (both laterally and torsionally) make them more forgiving in the bumps. Personally, I wouldn't look at twins as my primary ski if I lived out east but out west they are a good choice for many people.
