Weekend only, but props to K-mart for opening despite going against the "we only open if we can stay open" policy of years past....

Darn. I changed my schedule so I will be working Saturday. Depending what it looks like next week, I might blow off a commitment for next Sunday and head up Friday night.

Stupid priorities

Hmm...the way I figure, I've got one, maybe two "free" (non-skiing) weekends left between today and May. By this point in October, I've usually spent a few weekends at the ski house already, but due to work, weather, and personal stuff I haven't been there since July. I've got dryland training in VT tommorow, a cord of firewood in the driveway that needs to be stacked, the windows need the screens removed and storm windows lowered, and anywhere from 6 (minimum) to 18 (max - ouch : ) pair of skis and snowboards need to be scraped, brushed, and otherwise readied. My question is, HOW am I going to get all that done and still get some turns in @ K-mart on Sunday?

I'm not sure...but I won't be surprised if tomorrow I find myself stacking wood well into the wee hours of the night!

Yeah, but if you buy both days you save $6

I don't know why, but I haven't been this excited for a ski season since I was in HS (15 years ago). If I lived within 3 hours of Killington, I'd be there in a heartbeat just to lay down some turns and get the season started.

Reminds me of driving to St Sauveur from Ottawa the first weekend of November every year to ski 200 vertical feet of crowded bumps back in HS.

Maybe...maybe not. I guess if you think the $38 that K-mart is charging is too steep you could always go elsewhere. Of course, you're going to spend way more than $38 driving to Colorado. :

I'm not a fan of the American Skiing Company at all, but I've gotta give them a big for opening Killington this weekend (no doubt a $ losing venture) in order to put a big on the faces of a few hundred diehards.

Or to Wildcat in N.H.

I know how that feels - last year I drove over on Nov. 10 or 11th , they had the same two runs they always have open early, the one under the chair in front of the lodge and the one to the left of that. I noticed they have the old red Jay Peak tram on display.

If any bears are going to be there, I'd be happy to make some turns with you. I'll be wearing my blue & gray North Face jacket, silverish Boeri helmet (the kind with lots of vent holes), Bolle goggles, black Spyder pants, Volkl T50 5* skis.

Buckethead is going tomorrow. He is also on Volkl 5 stars. I cannot recall his clothing. He is a blast to ski with. I wish I could be there but I have a ultimate frisbee tournament

Here I sit at my computer....Looking at the K photo gallary. Snow is at least 16 inches. Photo shows deep snow, fats skis and no one there. But those photos could have been taken very early this morning.
