This can only help get the fares down going into Denver....

I was looking at airfares the other day and it's $195 to fly from LA to Salt Lake with a stop in Denver and $300 for LA to Denver alone....I know they have their reasons but it's stupid if you ask me.

I liek the way Jet Blue runs their business the best. I just wish they had more flights out of more airports.

ok, we got the "To" part, but the big question is which of us lucky jokers gets thier airport to be one of the "From" part. wake me up when that comes in !

Southwest is usually pretty good at adding direct flights to/from a lot of cities. So I'll bet they'll have non-stops from Houston. We fly them from here in DC (via BWI airport) to Salt Lake non-stop every year and it's great. I'm happy they'll be flying to Denver too!

Thanks wingnutter, I've been looking at fares LAX/DEN/LAX and was surprised at the costs. I signed up for Southwests newsletter hoping to hear about specials and wondered why Denver was never mentioned. I was planning on booking tickets tonight, so will access their web site to see if we can book yet. Frontier was the cheapest but we needed to stop over once, which I am not keen on when you have to make an international connection. An extra take off and landing just means more chance of hold ups.

Julie: No problem. It you look at Southwest's site tonight, the routes they will have to Denver will be via their code share partner, ATA. From the articles I have read, it sounds like SWA may not announce their routes and fares to and from Denver for at least a week. WN

Its ME!
I'm now just 15 minutes from a flight from ISP into DEN. Although whether it'll ever be a non-stop is another question.

to everyone looking to book flights,

southwest doesnt schedule very far out compared to most airlines. for instance, i'm looking to book a trip to SLC in feb. for the epic ski gathering and they dont have thier flights for that weekend yet.
i suppose it helps them adjust prices + routes better, but just thought i'd let everyone know that booking a march flight to DEN may not be a possibility until december.

I went to the SW website and they seem to be booking Denver out to February already. I didn't book anything because they don't have any non-stps from Albany.

I think I overheard on the news that SW is having a press conference/news release around 11 MT to announce their destinations out of DIA. Service begins January 06.

Press release from Southwest (print format):

http://phx.corporate-ir.net/phoenix....4265&highlight=

You might also download their "DING!" app for your computer (if you haven't already). They publish fares to your desktop 1 - 2x a day...

Edit: According to the release: 'Fares are valid for travel beginning Jan. 3, 2006, through the end of the published schedule (currently March 31, 2006)'.

Damn, they're only doing nonstops to/from Phoenix, Vegas, and Chicago for now.
Yes, but you can get layover flights to everywhere else. $185 before taxes to most EC cities from Denver.
yep, thats the bad part of southwest is you usually have at least one stop; but its usually a lot cheaper than the major airlines if you book early enough and it has always been same day layover in my experience.

Spoke with a ticket agent last night at SW who told me that flights into Denver would not begin until March 31st '06. Maybe that's only from my destination(Oakland) but who knows?:

Yeah, MK- you'd probably have to stop in Vegas on your way to Denver. Its only non-stop from Phoenix, Chicago, and Vegas right now.
