Here goes. Everyone knows it’s really all about the graphics. From the Ski Canada photos in its buyers guide which include many though not all of each brand’s ski models overall grades have been assigned by our team of experts.

Atomic

A- for their triplets series (Three skis per set for those who are hard on their skis.)

B- to B+ for models like SX:10, Izor 9:7, Sugar Daddy etc.

Metron Series – See Blizzard below.

Blizzard- Needs to take remedial art class.

Dynamic -A- For VR17, VR 27, Taris and T21.Tuetonic ownership hasn't robbed Dynamic of its graphic flair. However, If the “Slayer” model died few would mourn.

Dynastar- A+ Say what you will about the French, they have style. However, when it comes to Salomon the exception proves the rule.

Elan – See Blizzard. However, the Magfire 12, M-999, and M-777 deserve passing grades.

Fischer- Most improved award (recall how bad they were before.) The Maori graphics on some of their AMC line are cool and iridescent topskins on their RX series and their AMC 73 and AMC 79 put them at the head of the class. But hey, what’s with the Halloween colors on the RX-8?

Head- Hey, those Blizzard’s are starting to look pretty good.

K-2- Public Enemy, Seth Vicious and Luv series deserve top grades. The Outlaw, Recon and the rest of the line are on a Pass/Fail system and a lucky thing it is for them.

Line- Most creative award.

Nordica- C+ overall but Hot Rod Top Fuel and Hot Rod Eliminator did raise the curve.

Rossignol- See Dynastar.

Salomon-See Dynastar.

Stockli- C+ Nothing ventured nothing gained though the “Snake BC” deserves a higher grade. The staid Swiss ski maker seems to have placed all its artistic energy into this single model leaving nothing left for the rest of the line. And that's not saying a whole lot.

VIST- Deserves the most visually irritating "worst in show" award. Armada, 4Front, Goode Kootenay, Ogasaka, and Prior skis were omitted from the reviews because these smaller brands deserve a break (and didn’t buy any ads). But VIST is just too irksome to ignore.

Volant- Classy in a Bogner sort of way- Give them an A-.

Voelkl-Did some say they liked the graphics? Just proves there is no accounting for taste. The topskin graphics on their “Star”series and the Superspeed models look like they were applied with spray paint by some drunken Voelkl employees who broke into the schnapps stash. And what is that topskin material-stucco?

Notes on testing methodology

To keep the test objective, all skis were masked with transparent tape before judging. The fact that the highest grades awarded particular brands were from skiers sponsored by those brands is pure coincidence. The top scores from those manufacturers who did not advertise with us were thrown out as were the lowest scores from our major advertisers to keep the test fair. Similarly, no actual on snow ski testing was done so as not to distort the results. There you have it. Ski test 2005-06! Now head to your dealer and buy the latest and greatest now. And remember kids, its all about the graphics.
Coming next month our boot tests.

Well, you're all gay.

The Bogner Bamboo ski is da schnizzy:

Yeah, that's bamboo you're looking at. Real Big Bamboo, Cheech.
That's what I'm talkin' about.

Looks like my kitcken floor - without the ants.

This year's Dynastar Legends don't look as nice as last year's. I just saw some pics of the 3800's which I didn't know existed. They look good.

Wasn't there a guy wearing a helmet like that in "Monty Python and The Holy Grail"? Very snazzy helmet. Somehow the potential for termites close to my ear canals makes the price tag a bit less attractive though.

I wonder if you can use Pledge on those?

That topskin material is super durable, and the graphics are awesome !

Volkl's entire freeride line, very nice subtle graphics, especially the Mantra and Gotama. I liked the 04/05 Sanouk a lot. The carver/allstar whatever line is terrible looking, the race skis are pretty good though.

Armada: ANT, AR5, ARV
4FRNT: MSP, VCT
Prior: Doughboy
Line: Elizabeth, Prophet
Dynastar: Legend Pro, DC Pro Model, Big Trouble
Salomon: Gun Lab
Rossi: B4/Squad (I like green)
K2: Seth Vicious, Fujative

For da ladies the Nordica Olympia line is hard to beat.

http://www.nordica.com/ski/scheda.php?s=7&target=204

Quick triva question. Can anyone recognize what all four models are named after?

Hint: It's something guys like watching women do.

I wont ski em but the Armada line is just awesome looking.
I don't huck, I tuck.
Race skis for me...

On the minimal end of things, I like the Dobermann GSR. The minimal graphics are non-pretentious, just badass for those who know what they are.

Does it involve a wading pool and 50 gallons of pudding?

The Stockli Snake is by far the coolest ski ever. Has that iradescent top sheet that looks blue from one side and green from the other. Plus it looks like snake skin.

The '05 superspeed is indeed one of the coolest looking ski ever. In '05 i've also loved the flamed, hot-roddish stockli stormrider XL.
For '06, I would say Legend pro, Speed course (I love the tri-color scheme), and as far as less know brands are concerned, the aluflex monoski and the Scott Aztec.

Look

unrivaled.
