As I said, for some reason Gore Mountain gets big crowds of +70's. Anyone know why?

So the poll master strikes again.:

Interesting though - here I almost make the upper half whereas over at TGR I almost made the boneyard on the same poll.

I find the 26-30 and the 46-50 dips interesting.
The 26-30 dip is easy...post graduate get a job and have children syndrome. By the time the first mid-life crisis sets in for the 40-something year olds, the need for speed comes back into play. I thik a lot of us experienced a reduction of ski time with new jobs or infants. The bulge of participation at age 40-45 reflects the age distribution of the US population. There is no reason for the dip in the 46-50 year olds, and it might not be significant. But results here surprisingly reflect US population distribution, with the youngest (under 15) not represented for whatever internet access reasons.

As suggested by Physicsman earlier, what is atypical for skiing and this site in particular is the under-representation of women vs men.

I thought the 11-15 demographic dominated TGR?

rayl, I recently tried Viagra eye drops. They didn't improve my vision, but they did make me look hard.

What's the atypical age for divorce/separation in the US? This may be yet another contribution for the 41-45 bump.

I don't know. But divorce is bigger in the southern United States (http://www.ncpa.org/pd/social/pd111999g.html), and since Epic has fewer people from the snowless south ...

70+ crowd

New York State used to have some programs that you had to sign up for that gave pretty deep discounts to kids and seniors.

I think NYS still has some control over some areas?
I'm representing the middle of the 16-20 crowd at 18. The two guys I ski with the most are 47 and 72 so we've got all our bases covered.

Well back when I was a twenty something year old boy, still wet behind the ears, we knew how to respect our elders!!!! Honestly, I just don't know what it is with kids these days.............

Try a few drops on the tongue, who knows, you might become popular.

Joined the 70+ Club 9 years ago. Age does have it's advantages such as "Free" sking at many areas. Although I would gladly take a few years off my body & pay. Still get 100 + days every year.

Remember, Skiing is a lot like sex. You don't have to be good to enjoy it. (So Iv'e been told)

Skiers 70 and over (as well as 6 and under) ski free every day at Gore.

My wife is taking me out West for my 30th birthday in February.

Neither one of us have skied west of Vermont.

It's great to have a wife that skis.
har, I'm in the majority. Well, one of them anyway.
I am going to wait till next week to vote. That way I can push the 51-55 band out in front!
I used to ski with Ray Panella back East. He was 86 or so the last time I skied with him. If's he still skiing, he may even be 90. Also, there are a pair of oldsters who ski here. She arrives in the locker room walking with CRUTCHES, but somehow still gets down the hill (quite slowly). I think they are in their 80's as well.

Some of us are still hanging in there.....63 and not close to grown up yet.

Got health issues this year and my ski season is in jeopardy for the first time ever. Can't happen. Got a new pair of Volkl Allstars enroute......

Suspect that a lot of skiers 50+ who develop health or injury problems give up. Too bad, skiing has helped to keep me young...so far. Used to ski with a guy who "quit" skiing at 88....he only skied about 50 days that year. He is my hero and I hope I can pass up his record.

hmmm..... : By my maths that gives us 1 year + to vote since the split is at 56....
I'm pleased to be in the majority, at least according to this pole - 51 years. There's comfort in knowing that your "normal", you're "okay".

I find when I do yoga and meditation, I feel lithe, youthful and less stressed. My skiing sparkles. When I don't, I feel stiffer and older.

The young seem entitiled for feel good (physicially). As we age, life-style choices seem to play a larger role in how we feel when skiing, or in general.

Wildest lift ride I ever had was with a guy who was 96, yep, 96- at Alta. this was perhaps 4 years ago so that would make him.... He had a pair of Elan SCX's on and I saw him later from the chair noodeling down a blue groomer in a wide, determined stance... cackeling all the way...

P.S.- I'm 52, don't smoke or drink anymore, and have good examples all around. My father in law is 72 and finally had to stop running marathons (and winning two age groups below his) because it was too hard on his knees. Now he's training for triathelons. When PCMR announced that 70+ could no longer ski free the town nearly rioted...

Oh goody, we picked up another in my age group.
Back in April I skied at Crystal Mountain with a local named Bill Whitenfedt. He was 69 and had a teflon patch in his heart. He could really move but had to stop every so often to catch his breath. Worked out just about right for my Mid-west legs and lungs.
