Best Skiing Music

Thread Starter
Okay with just about everyone having an ipod or other mp3 player nowadays and myself expecting a nano relatively soon. I would like to know what some good songs are to listen to while you ski. I like all types of music with perhaps Coldplay being my favorite band but I mean I'll listen to anything from classic all the way down to some rap and hip/hop. Please post some favorites!

Nothing by The Catheters

It was the opening song on Warren Miller's Journey. I can't even listen to it anymore because it gives me ski fever so bad. The soundtrack has a few good ones on it.

Here We Go by GRITS.
Jusjus by Mr. Scruff
Good Time Roll Pt 2 by RJD2 (a lot of this may just have been Plake ripping Gun Barrel on those downhill racing skis)

Well this is a sample of what I have on my ipod ski list...

Slow & Low - Beasties
$300 - Soul Couphing
Wildlife Analysis - Boards Of Canada
Communication Breakdown - Zep
Minor Threat - Minor Threat
Slip Kid - The Who
It's not my cross to bear - Allman Brothers
An album of hiphop remixs of Steve Reich and other Minimalist stuff

it is all good..it is amazing how different music really fits the mood, but generally a good solid riff seems key.

Of course, it depends entirely on your age. I used to listen to The Rolling Stones "Street Fighting Man" on a portable cassette while hurling down the back bowls of Whistler in the early 70's. A transcendental experience!!

Well I really don't know your taste in music, but the first song to come to mind was "Creeping Death" by Metallica, heavy and percussive, gets the blood and adrenaline pumping. Along these lines how about "Calm Like a Bomb" by Rage Against The Machine, or "Chic 'n' Stu" by System Of A Down. I suppose these would be good choices for mogul skiing.:

But, sometimes when in an etherial mood some Grateful Dead is nice. "Dark Star" like the one on "Live Dead" would be good, maybe for a deep floaty powder day.

I may be the last guy on earth who enjoys listening to albums (and uses the word "albums") in their entirety as opposed to iTune cd mixes so..

1. Double Nickles on the Dime- The Minutemen (almost an hour of Bliss!)
2. Stevie Wonder-Innervisions (still the soul standard!)
3. RadioHead-OK, Computer (you know, it's Coldplay for people who like music)

though, not necessarily back to back to back!

Oh, and for a single I'm with the guy who picked Minor Threat's eponymous 1 minute anthem "Minor Threat".

Anything thats Rock and Roll. Alternative stuff as well.

Smashing Pumpkins
Cold Play
Bon Jovi
AC/DC
Led Zepplin
and anything that inspires speed and thrills.

I like the big shinny tunes series that comes out by MuchMusic in Canada as well.

Yeah, Bushwacker, that's the spirit . . Those guys at MSP know how to put a movie together.

Remember in Sick Sense when Seth Morrison is on top of that Peak in Alaska talking in a walkie talkie over Prodigy's "Smack my Bitch Up"? Has to be the greatest opening to a ski movie ever.

Last Year's MSP movie (Yearbook) intro was cool too when they used "Tom Sawyer" by Rush.

Maybe in the afternoon! In the a.m., my drive to the mountain theme song never changes: The Sopranos theme song . Why, I'm not really sure...but one night while watching the show, someone said, "This is a perfect song for rolling into the parking lot in the morning, coffee in hand, heads nodding!" It's been that way ever since.

LMAO! OK, that may be the best description I've heard. But we all have guilty pleasures I guess. Mine is a set of remixes of Madonna's Die another Day. OK, now that I have lost *all* credibility...

But I have to say kids, if "Green Day" is punk, Phish can actually jam (in the sense of Allman Brothers have their s** together jam) and I say not to both.

Anyway.....It sounds like some really excellent taste out there. Definetly some new things it sounds worth checking out.
