Opening day at Sunshine Village

Thread Starter
While I know that no one can predict what snow conditions will be like November 11, I'm hoping someone can comment on what it's usually like on opening day at Sunshine. Is it a madhouse gong show, with huge crowds all trying to squeeze onto one lift? Are there usually several lifts open? Or is it likely to be a bit of a ghost town at the Village? Should I plan to take a couple of vacation days to be there?

Any comments would be appreciated.

can be anything, both for crowds and terrain

I've seen almost the whole hill open for Oct 30, and still riding strawberry untill early Dec.

crowds for the first day will be 1000ish and if that is all on strawberry then you are screwed. If you can do laps everywhere you are fine.

no matter what you see, hear etc bring rock skis for the first few time out of untill 1m base.

start the first day with your pass already prosessed and walk on the gondola at 8am, have a coffee, and ski untill you dont want to, then lunch in banff.

I suspect there will be a base number of people who will be up there regardless of the number of lifts open (I'm going to be one of them). That being the case, the more snow and lifts--the less crowded the resort. A lot of folks don't even unpack their skis until Christmas--the more fools they.
