[quote=onyxjl]How does this pan out for ski camps such as the ESA or simillar?
Do the instructors want to be tipped at these events? Is it expected? If not expected is it a normal practice?
I have taught at the ESA twice. I have been tipped by some and not by others. I appreciated the tips and, of course, punished the others with abusive ridicule
It is not expected, or required, and actually not even a normal practice.
I will personally take this up with the coaches so we are all on the same page about this. I suspect that my discussion of it will be considered to be quite obvious to them and, professionals that they are, they will probably be surprised that I even bring it up.
Although the ESA is not expensive relative to some ski events, we are also aware that the costs are significant. We appreciate very much the financial sacrifices that our friends will make to get there, and we absolutely reject any efforts to squeeze more out of them.
None of us will ever turn down a tip, but more importantly none of us will ever turn down just a smile and a thank you. We just want everyone to have a good time, learn some new stuff (or some old stuff), and tell their friends about ESA.
