Those are the people I would just assume punch in the face . I am an agressive person and i ski for the thrill of scaring the shit out of myself and sensation of being victorious. If things in the ski industry keep up the way they are it is soley going to be a rich persons sport ! Already almost is and that is bullshit. Resorts need to think about the ma and pa's too. Not just joe schmoe think my sht dont stink millionaire. Alot of resorts shit on a person just for having bad equipment. My wife and a few friends were staying at sunvalley idaho. Friends are much more well off than my wife and my 235K a yr. We had a problem with the drain on our tub, I went to the office to get shunned off because of the clothes I was wearing and the guy even gave me a shitty look. Then walked right pass me to some gentleman wearing a nice suit ready to go to dinner. I nearly punched that snood employee. I was wearing a gratefull dead tye dye northface vest and a pair of jeans. That does not mean I am poor or do not have money. But that ******* just goes to show what the ski industry thinks of lower , middle, and upper middle class people."not good enough" well **** them. Sunvalley sucks bad. Now they are taking the plunge with my beloved Gore mountain, to renovate, place realestate, adn link it to the snowbowl. That sucks, gore is NY's best kept secret and it will soon be ruined as well as alot of the ma and pa B&B's and hotels. That sucks and pisses me off. This might not make much sense to anyone but it does to me. I dont exactly write my thoughts out in the most understanding ways, but oh well!
WOW! How about some paragraphs or at least separations to make this easier to read?
200K...I'd say you are at the wealthier end of the spectrum and can afford the price...any price...that is thrown at you. Try making 50K or less a year for the entire household. We can barely afford heating oil to keep the houses warm enough to live in.
I am seriously considering running my house at minimal heat...enough to keep pipes from freezing...and moving in with a sibling for the winter. I will still have a mortgage, car payment and heating bill, but with the savings on heating I may survive the winter.
Fortunately, a good amount of my skiing is paid for through my affiliation with the National Ski Patrol and Professional Courtesy, but not all of it. I am able to ski at other areas in clinics for ski patrol...that may be the only way this year. I patrol at a Ma and Pa area and have a whole 200ft of vert, but hey, at least I am skiing. I have volunteered to go with the school group to a 1000vert area...again...I am skiing. That is all that really matters...I am skiing.
I am in my mid 40's and have been skiing since the age of 5. I have see a lot of changes and progress in the sport. I really do not mind the changes. There are still areas I can go to that do not cost and arm and a leg (only a leg) that are well worth skiing. Again...it doesn't matter to me...as long as I am skiing!
BTW- in the northeast we often DO need snowmaking and this often requires grooming. ALSO, the word is "amenities", not "adminities".
"realsie" = realize
"than" = then
"cant"= can't or cannot
Sorry, I couldn't help myself...it's the teacher in me.
