I just find it funny that people have skis for moguls only- and then different levels of powder. And one guy who mentioned he classifies his skis by the "chance of snow"? Wow.
Well I got a bit salty with you before, but hey man, why the need to crap on someone else's parade? I skied my first thirty or so days last season on a pair of decomissioned Salomon Xscream 700s from some rental fleet (my only skis at the time), and I skied them in a variety of conditions (though nothing very deep, 8" max); they were not so much fun in some conditions as others, but I liked them. When I got a terrible core shot in them one day, and I decided to put them in the shop for a base weld. Of course it snowed heavily overnight, so to avoid missing out on it, I rented
Well given what some skis were going for on eBay, I decided it really would be better to buy a second pair of skis than be stuck renting again. So I bid on, and won, a pair of Powerkarves for 30 cents plus shipping. Those were so cheap, that I felt OK about buying a pair of Chubbs the next day. So I went from one to three pair in two days. I bought some more skis after that too, enjoying my bargain bidding endeavors. I'm not a rich man by a long shot, but I do feel everyone is entitled to some manner of indulgence in life. Seeing as a season pass is really just an inexpensive means of guaranteeing myself regular exercise, my indulgence has been buying skis, and now I have seven pair (I only spent around $600).
I don't think I need them, and I don't think they will make me a better skier (though I do think they can facilitate my abilities more efficiently in the various conditions they are made for), but I happen to enjoy experiencing some small amount of luxury in my otherwise bare-bones existance. Good God man, allow me my little pleasure without spouting your contempt of my treasure!
Even if someone quibbles over the details of what conditions in which they'll use this one or that one, how does it detract from you, if someone does so, or how does it benefit you (or anyone) to call it to question?
