One ski quiver as it should be...03/04 Atomic SX 9's that do it all
Do you gearheads have different skis for different temperatures, different humidity, % of clouds to blue ski etc, etc.....

not different skis... but at last count, my big bucket of waxes contained some 29 different breeds, along with a comp book full of notes on snow temp and water content

Flying Quivers

Hey, does anybody else have a hard time deciding what to take with them on the plane? It's hard for me to leave even one pair of my babies behind. And then I have the daughter's increasing quiver to worry about too. (Good thing the wife is a duffer...)

I notice Salomon sells a six ski bag but I can just imagine the looks on the baggage handlers at the curb when I try to check that.:

Maybe I will just have to get a bus like Madden...

Yes. You are only allowed a 50lb bag too, or they charge you extra. So the six pair bag is out. The best way to go - get a two pair bag, take two of your own pairs of skis, and pack the rest of the bag with clothes. You can't go wrong. Then carry your boots and other parafanalia. That leaves you one extra bag to check. If you do it right, you can actually take two pairs of skis, two pairs of poles, two pairs of boots, a normal luggage bag (with tuning supplies), and a carry-on with your boots (second pair) tied to it.

Delta's luggage policy actually specifically excludes "team bags" for all but USST members...I thought that was hilarious when I read it.

I take the double roll along, and a pair of narrow skis and a pair of fat skis. The rest of it stays home. The boots and helmet get carried on.

There could be different ski conditions that may be given for different skis. Every one has a reason for each ski in a quiver.
BUT...I think the reason we own so many skis is
Because each one was a "bargain"
Because The ski exists so I NEED it!
Because the "old" ski wasn't fast any more.
Because ......
.....you add a reason for me. I could use more reasons to own more skis!

The best way to do it is to send any extra pairs UPS.

So do you ship them to the lodge or what? Seems like the extra baggage fee might be cheaper (I have UPS'd skis before and it is not cheap) and least that way you have them with you.

Hmmm. Maybe I will just have to check the two ski bag and demo some new stuff....

Depends on what you are shipping, how far you are shipping, and whether or not you are willing to send it out 5 days in advance.

I can ship my skis from the east to the rockies for about 20 bucks. If I really had to have more than the two pair I bring in the bag, I'd do that.

Admitted gear-head

The only reason I offer for having so many is that I like having them!

My first ski:
Rossignol Peak 177 - a ladies' ski, I later found out! Learned on it and loaned it several ladies since

next, and highest-mileage ski:
Rossi 01 Bandit XX 184 - tons of fun for 4 seasons, but kinda plank-y

so I picked up a cheap used pair of:
Atomic 180 BetaV 8.20 - very carvy, easy to turn, light, flexy and snappy, fun in bumps - not a crud buster or powder hound. Ran head-on into a rock and broke a tip, put some duct tape on it

a deal I couldn't resist - $50 for a brand new
Rossignol Mountain Viper X 188 - with the Lexus promo paint job; a Super-G ski, way too stiff for everyday noodling around - but a joy to fly down a hard-packed blue-black (on an empty weekday with no one around to hit)

wanted to get into the backcountry, so I got a pair of
Atomic 01 9.22 180 - for $50 on ebay with no bindings, except they did come with demo bindings, so now they're my rock skis / loaners

so I got another used pair of
Atomic TM22 180 and put Silvretta EZ-Goes and skins on em

all my Tele friends teased me about my randos though, so I got
Tua Nitrogens 185 w/ Riva Zs - and tried to learn tele; still trying

wanted to do more touring so a friend sold me his
Fischer Rebounds 189 with 3-pins

and I got a slightly fatter BC ski on ebay too:
Rossignol BC 90 AR with Voile 3-pin cables

last Xmas Santa brought me:
Atomic 04 R10 180 - for my new every day ski

and after reading all about it here I couldn't resist a used pair of
Volant Machete FB 175 which I haven't taken out yet

now I just need to retire the XXs and get a new pair of mid-fats, think I'll go shorter, maybe
Atomic REX 177 or Salomon Scream Limited 180 to complete the quiver

...and if I ever get better at Tele maybe a resort-weight pair with heftier bindings (if I find good deals on both the REX and the Limited maybe I'll mount one up with Hamerheads...the Limited has been going cheap on ebay lately...then again if I had a job I could get Scotty Bobs...;-)

but that's it really - NO MORE after that! Unless I start Heli-skiing in BC...

update: sold the Bandits, got the REXs

When I bought my '06 157 Metron 9s I doubled the size of my quiver.

My other skis are '04 K2 Escape 5500s in a 160.
