Edge tune for Atomic Race skis - Same as Metrons?

I had my Atomic ST11's repaired and got to try them out today but have found the behaviour of them has completely changed!
When the shop repairing them took the skis they asked me what edge and base angles I wanted and I told them to do 1 degree base edge angle and 3 degrees side edge angle.
When I got the skis back the other day I was told they did a very light pass on the grinder to tidy the bases up and the edges feel nice and sharp but alas their ability to carve like on rails on hardpack has gone
I'm wondering if these skis should have no base angle on them at all and could it be that the 1 degree base edge angle has ruined them?

If anyone knows what the Atomic ST11's factory tune is would be grateful for the info.
As it stands i'm feeling that perhaps these slalom skis do not adhere to the usual tune I have been used to with my Metrons.

Cheers,

Chris

All Atomics are 1 degrees base and 3 degrees side from the factory. Racers may adjust the edge angles based on discipline but for most purposes a 1 and 3 is rock solid while carving.

I am not sure why your shop would pass the ski over a grinder or belt sander after the edges were set. Once the ski is ground properly the base edge should be zero and then they set the edges to 1 and 3. Any additional grinding will mess that up.

I am not sure what tuning methods they use such as a stone grinder and then a ceramic edge finisher vs a all in one machine, vs a belt sander and hand edge set or any combination of the above.

You should get a true bar to check the base angles. Do a search on the board to find out how to check them.

Something is not right with them.

Scalce, Thanks. I just got my base edge file out set to 1degree and marker penned the base metal, ran a coarse diamond file across the base and the file does not take off any metal base edge until it has first removed approximately 1.5 times the width of the base edge of the Petex. Could this base proud to the edges be my problem?

Your skis could be base high or your base edges could be over beveled.

Or both

Sounds like i've got both!
I'll take them back tomorrow and see if they can sort them for me.

Remember that your base bevel guide must span across the entire ski or the built in concavity of the Atomic at the tip and tails will throw off the stone or file's contact point.

I would take them back anyway if I were you.
