Other than for comfort, are boots ever really too stiff? Does stiffer almost always equate to beter performance? I'm not talking pure race boots or the Plug boots sometimes discussed here. I'm interested in the AME boot category frequently reviewed in the trade magazines. I'm 6'1", 175lb. and certainly no better than an upper level intermediate skiier yet I've owned two pair of "Intermediate" boots that I clearly overpowered because I frequently flexed them to the limit of their range. I now ski Langes with a listed flex index of 110 that flex very easily when warm and have never been uncomfortably stiff. Since you can not really test AME boots I'm looking for as much input as I can get as I consider moving to a stiffer boot.
