Bandit B1 or Valkl AX3 or Something else

Hi, I am 45 yrs old, 5' 7", 165 lbs., (in good shape - work out a lot) and ski exclusively in the east (Connecticut- weekly Vermont-Weekends). I ski mostly groomed, but also love those moguls, and like to ski moderately fast and carve short to medium turns. I skied a lot in my younger day but got away from it for a while. Now that my daughter is older and loves to ski - I have a new ski partner – we skied about a dozen times last season (local resort – Ski Sundown) and looking forward to a lot of weekly skiing with some weekend trips to the Vermont slopes. We rented the last two seasons and I am ready to buy. I need your help and advice. I am looking for something that will play nice in those EAST conditions. I consider myself as “A Player” I narrowed my hunt down to two chooses, any advise on the following chooses:

Volk 7 24 AX3 (size-156) w/motion 12 Binding

Rossignol B1 (Size 160) w/ Saloman Binding

Also any thought on a good boot, I was a big Salomon fan in the past.

Thanks for your help – there is a lot of great equipment out there.

I think you have narrowed it down to two good choices. The AX3 is going to have the advantage at higher speeds and want to do bigger arcs, while the B1 will be more fun in the bumps and quicker radius turns. I have to ask though, have you tried the skis in those short lengths that you mentioned? They seem precasiously short for either ski. I would suggest going no shorter than 170-cm, especially since you work out a lot and ski moderately fast. I would imagine that the recommended size for either ski for you would be more like 174-177. Anyhow, as others are bound to mention, demo and decide for yourself. Heck, try them in a longer size while you're at it!

AX3 is the pick and you would do well to consider around 10cm longer than what you're currently considering.
