Elk Mtn locals 1/22-27

I may be coming to Elk for my L2 January 24-27. Any pros or locals willing to show me around the mtn before the exams? Probably ski 1/22 & 23 to get a feel for the place beforehand.

Any other Eastern Bears heading there for the exam?

No can do for me...we have tickets in New York for "Spamalot", sorry.

I'm not a local, more of a weekend visitor. On that Sun (1/22), maybe we can get some of the gang from here together that day and do a few turns.

Feel free to PM me if any questions, where to stay, etc.

Cool, we'll talk as the time gets closer...obviously, we have time

Won't need lodging, we have a friend there (not so much a skier though) so free place to crash for the week on the lake.

As of now, I'm down. Keep us updated

Hmm, I noticed that you will be there for the week. When we get closer, maybe I can get up there during mid week. I will have to bring my boards down from Vermont.

Yes, a week, my exam is 4 days and I'd like to free ski two days prior to get to know the mtn.

You will be able to get to know the mountain by lunch, the first day. Plan on spending a lot of time on Tunkhannock for your bumps section.

The Shoe in Feb and Liberty in March. Trying to find cheap digs at both and it isn't looking good. The Shoe is ridiculous and nothing seems nearby.

That does suck.

Snowshoe has to be one of the most expensive places to stay at. Couple that with the fact that it's close to no where, and you have the reason why I avoid the place. I can vacation in the Rockies for cheaper than I can the Shoe.

Liberty should be easy to find close, cheap lodging. There are plenty of chain hotels in either Gettysburg or Fredrick. PM me when your there and I'll come up. I hate skiing there, but they have a good bar.

I'm not real thrilled about driving all the way to SS and paying their prices...not overly thrilled about traveling 3 hours to Lib either. Driving to ski something smaller than what I currently ski makes no sense to me, lol. I'll be there overnight, so some bar time is a must.

I can see your point about driving away from 7 Springs to ski Liberty. Not to mention that unless it's a banner snow year (like that's likely: ), you'll be skiing slush at best, if not grass.

Is this event on the weekend? If so you'll get some world class practice at snowboarder dodging.

No, in both cases I'm extremely lucky that they are mid week (Feb 2-3 at SS, March 9-10 at Lib). Mid March at Liberty might be really sketchy if this winter is anything like last year. But...it's my only option outside of driving 10-12 hours to VT, and I'm not doing that for 2 days of testing if I can help it.
